This summer I am on a quest to find a natural sunscreen that is convenient, effective, and does not require me to cover my kids in chemicals. I especially want to find a product that I can recommend to moms with young babies*. With all the eco-friendly alternatives available for almost everything in the marketplace, I honestly thought this task would be a lot easier. After feeling disappointed after trying Badger sunscreen last month, I decided to put a few more options to the test during our hot season here in Canada. I spent the past few weeks testing Goddess Garden Sunny Kids Sport Spray Natural Sunscreen to see if it provides a workable solution.
Goddess Garden Sunny Kids Sport Spray Natural Sunscreen
What I liked:
While this product says it contains zinc oxide (like most other natural sunscreens), it didn’t make my family look quite as ghastly as other brands. There was some initial whitening when I first applied it to myself and my kids, but the sunscreen absorbed quickly and we went back to looking like our normal, healthy selves. This sunscreen is SPF 30 and water resistant, and I found that it provided fantastic protection for everyone when we spent a sunny afternoon at a lake.
What I disliked:
While Goddess Garden Sunny Kids Sport Spray Natural Sunscreen comes in a Coppertone-like spray container, it doesn’t spray on quite as easily and still requires some spreading and rubbing. With that said, I didn’t find it overly difficult to apply compared to other natural sunscreens. The cost is about double that of Coppertone, which I understand given the better quality of Goddess Garden, but it still does make covering 4 kids in sunscreen on a daily basis quite pricey.
Important: Read this recent article from Today’s Parent citing a warning from Consumer Reports to avoid spray on sunscreens.
